GeoComply reports booming start to North Carolina online sports betting market
Geolocation solutions provider conducted almost 5.4 million geolocation checks across nearly 370,000 active player accounts in the market’s opening 48 hours
GeoComply has reported that in the first 48 hours of the North Carolina online sports betting market going live, there were nearly 370,000 active player accounts in the state.
The geolocation solutions supplier stated that it had also conducted just over 5.3 million geolocation checks in the Tar Heel State over the course of the opening two days.
North Carolina became the 31st state to launch online sports betting on Monday, March 11, with eight operators vying for the summit in the shape of FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, ESPN Bet, Caesars, Fanatics, bet365, and Underdog.
The move into North Carolina is historically DFS-focused Underdog’s first foray into the online sports betting space.
The launch came about after House Bill 347 was passed into law last June, with the bill stipulating that the market had to go live before June 2024.
To gain market access, operators are required to partner with an in-state sporting franchise, golf facility, or motorsport entity.
In a social media post, GeoComply said: “The first 48 hours of sports betting in North Carolina have confirmed what we already know: there is huge demand for legal online betting in the Tar Heel State.
“Last year we shared our data with dozens of North Carolina lawmakers that showed, without question, that their residents were seeking out legal betting options in Virginia and Tennessee.
“Today, these same consumers have the safeguards of legal sports betting right in North Carolina, and the state gets to keep all the tax revenue.”
