OpenBet launches geolocation tool to challenge in North America
Locator set to face off against incumbent GeoComply and Xpoint as supplier spreads its compliance reach further following Neccton acquisition
OpenBet is set to expand into the North American geolocation market with the launch of its new Amazon Web Services-powered Locator tool.
The supplier said the Locator tool, which uses AWS cloud tech, will provide a low-latency solution to locate and monitor customers.
Focusing on several components of the new tech, OpenBet Locator will provide flexible geo-fence management and high-precision location tracking, as well as real-time virtual private network and location spoofing detection.
Locator will initially be rolled out in North America alongside plans to take the product live with operators across the globe in the future.
The North American geolocation market is dominated by GeoComply, with the firm overseeing one billion geolocation transactions per month.
The business is partnered with the likes of FanDuel and DraftKings, and its sole challenger in the space to date has been Xpoint.
In February 2023, Xpoint secured a victory in the courts against GeoComply relating to patent infringements, with GeoComply’s lawsuit being dismissed by a judge in the District Court of Delaware.
The supplier said the launch of Locator ties in with its acquisition of Neccton last year, with OpenBet aiming to expand into player protection and compliance.
In a statement, the firm said the Locator tool “is designed to remove the friction of geolocation to the end-customer’s onboarding process.”
Jordan Levin, OpenBet CEO, explained the geolocation solution would remove barriers which prevent operators from succeeding.
He said: “Introducing OpenBet Locator is an exciting move for us and takes our modular product offering to a new level. Built in-house and leveraging AWS technology, we have developed a strong proposition that can be tailored to meet unique business needs.
“As a pioneer within the global sports betting arena for over 25 years, we have an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities operators face within highly regulated markets.
“OpenBet Locator is a scalable, compliant, and dependable geolocation solution that removes the barriers to operators’ success,” Levin added.
OpenBet’s parent company Endeavor merged the firm with IMG Arena at the start of February into a single entity that now operates under the OpenBet brand. Endeavor is also set to move into private ownership after a bid from Silver Lake was backed by bosses.
