Gambling.com fightback continues with Google penalty lift
Media Corporation has had the Google penalty on its Gambling.com website lifted, significantly increasing its ability to rank on the world's leading search engine.
MEDIA CORPORATION has had the Google penalty on its Gambling.com website lifted, significantly increasing its ability to rank on the world’s leading search engine.
The AIM-listed advertising network and online publishing group, which last week revealed it is to relaunch Gambling.com with search engine optimisation business On-e Media, has suffered the penalty since 2007, when it was imposed for reasons the company says are “unknown”.
The penalty reduced the site’s visibility in Google searches, leading to reduced traffic and reduced custom as a consequence.
In the year ended September 2007 when the penalty was introduced, Gambling.com generated a gross margin of £1.1m, but following the penalty gross margin fell to £410,000, a reduction of 62%.
An identical penalty has also been lifted on the company’s CreditCardExpert.co.uk site, which saw gross margin fall 56% from £165,000 to £73,000 in the same period.
Media Corp chief executive Justin Drummond (pictured) said: “The removal of the Google penalty is a hugely significant event for Media Corp and should sharply increase the revenues derived from these two websites. Gambling.com in particular is a major asset for Media Corp and the improvement in Google rankings combined with the imminent re-launch of the site should see a marked improvement in revenues generated from these assets.”
Media Corporation was known as Gaming Corporation until 2006, when the business changed its name. As revealed on EGRmagazine.com Tuesday last week, Media Corp is buying online casino, poker and sportsbetting.site Purple Lounge as part of an M&A trail that will also include acquisitions in sports betting and bingo.
Media Corp is comprised of two main divisions, its Eyeconomy advertising network and a website publishing arm.
