Poll results: Crowd betting not the answer to more social betting
Voters suggest new products from Colossus Bets and Sky Bet can’t overcome the inherently private nature of gambling
Crowd betting is not the answer for those looking to make sports betting more social, according to a majority of respondents to this week’s poll.
The concept of crowd betting has picked up momentum in recent weeks thanks to the launch of Colossus Bet’s Syndicates product and the growing popularity of Sky Bet’s crowd boosted accumulator feature, where the odds of an acca improve the more people bet on it.
However 57% of voters say it isn’t the best way to make betting more social.
The biggest issue could be the nature of betting itself – nobody likes sharing their losers and products like Syndicates, where entries into jackpot tournaments are far more likely to lose than win, could quickly frustrate participants.
That said, 43% of voters saw crowd betting as the best solution yet to a more social form of betting.
The formats mentioned above can be easily shared and talked about between friends over WhatsApp conversations, for instance, rather than large social media networks, potentially making the word-of-mouth marketing and engagement levels more powerful than anything else to date.
