Poll results: Football shirt sponsorships are here to stay
Labour Party’s pledge to ban football clubs from signing betting partnerships won’t have an impact on the current market
EGR readers do not believe that gambling sponsorships in football are set to become a thing of the past.
Exactly 67% of readers believe the gambling industry’s dominance of Premier League partnerships will continue unopposed while 33% said that betting sponsorships would be consigned to history.
The question was posed after the Labour Party pledged to ban football clubs from signing sponsorship deals with gambling companies to tackle the ‘hidden epidemic’ of addiction.
The policy, unveiled by deputy leader Tom Watson, is part of Labour’s plans to protect children from early exposure to gambling.
Watson said Labour would seek a ban implementation from the Football Association but the party would be prepared to legislate if necessary.
