Betting and Gaming Council names new head of public affairs
Alexander Reeves steps up into leading comms role after 13 months with trade body as white paper lobbying continues

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has appointed Alexander Reeves as its new head of public affairs as the trade body looks to beef up its communications team.
Reeves has been promoted to his new role after spending 13 months as a parliamentary affairs manager for the BGC.
His remit will now expand to manage the group’s public affairs messaging, with the BGC continuing to lobby for liberal regulation in the upcoming white paper on the Gambling Act 2005 review.
The BGC has been vocal in its oppositions to reported measures in the white paper, which is now not due to be published until September when a new Prime Minister is in place.
The trade body has railed against affordability measures and a restriction on bonuses, arguing the industry will suffer from these proposed changes.
Reeves joined the BGC from PR firm Sard Verbinnen & Co where he served as a senior associate between September 2020 and June 2021.
Reeves also boasts political experience, having spent time as a parliamentary officer for the Industry and Parliament Trust, as well as short spells in both the Conservative Party chair’s office and John Howell MP’s office.
Reeves will work alongside director of communications David Willets, who joined the BGC earlier this year from the Ministry of Defence.
Willets replaced Kevin Schofield in the role, who joined the BGC in March 2020.
