Gambling.com creates new head of legal role
Matti Metsola appointed to post
Gambling.com Group has created a new head of legal role with former Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) general counsel Matti Metsola being appointed to the post.
Metsola has over 10 years’ experience in the legal sector and has previously served as in-house legal counsel for gambling company’s including Unibet and Mr Green.
In his LinkedIn profile, he describes himself as being “passionate about regulation and compliance”
Charles Gillespie, CEO of Gambling.com Group, welcomed the appointment of Metsola to the company. He said: “We are happy to see Matti join the team and bring with him a wealth of experience from managing demanding regulatory projects in the industry.”
Gambling.com has been active in the M&A arena during the last six months, entering the US market at the turn of the year with the launch of its US facing affiliate site and latterly concluding a £3m deal to acquire an unnamed UK performance marketing network.
Its expansion into the US market comes with a number of legal and regulatory challenges as more and more states look to legalise online gambling within their borders, presenting new markets for the affiliate sector.
Addressing his new role as head of legal, Metsola added: “The affiliate sector is among the most dynamic parts of the online gaming industry right now with vast opportunities coming along thick and fast, including the prospect of a large, legal sports betting market in the United States.
“With its visionary leadership Gambling.com Group is in prime position to capitalize on those developments, and I’m thrilled to become part of it.”
