GamCare appoints new deputy chief executive officer
Mark Weiss steps up to take on dual role at the charity after almost two years of leading on communications
GamCare has announced Mark Weiss as the company’s new deputy CEO after almost two years with the gambling harms charity.
Weiss has been working with GamCare since May 2022, originally joining the firm as a senior policy and public affairs manager.
In April 2023, Weiss was named head of external affairs before being appointed acting director of communications in November.
In his new role as deputy CEO, Weiss will continue to serve as director of communications and external affairs.
During his time with GamCare, Weiss led the charity’s external engagement and communications programme.
He was also the voice of the Lived Experience Community and was critical in helping to deliver GamCare’s response to the UK government’s white paper, published last year.
Before joining GamCare, Weiss was with the Royal College of Anaesthetists where, as the head of policy and public affairs, he oversaw their anaesthesia strategy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prior to this, Weiss served the UK Faculty of Public Health for more than seven years, taking on numerous positions, most notably holding the position of senior policy officer.
Weiss said: “I am delighted to take on the role of deputy CEO. Since joining in 2022 I have seen firsthand the incredible impact that GamCare’s essential services have had in supporting people to recover from gambling harm – and in preventing those harms.
“As we now work through this transitional period in the future of research, prevention, and treatment, I look forward to working in close collaboration with our third sector partners, with GambleAware, the NHS, and with government as, together, we build the next chapter of gambling support in Britain.”

Weiss’ appointment as deputy CEO comes after D’Arcy Myers was named interim CEO in August following the departure of Anna Hemmings.
