GGPoker to host International Women’s Day charity tournament
Online poker room promises to donate $10,000 to women’s charities in latest social initiative
GGPoker has announced a special charity tournament set to take place on International Women’s Day to raise funds for women’s charities across the world. The International Women’s Day Charity Event will take place on 8 March, with a buy-in of $10 (£7.18) and a prize pool of $10,000. From each player’s buy-in, $1 will be added to the charity fund, with GGPoker topping the amount up with a further $10,000 donation. The total amount raised will be donated to several international women’s charities. In addition to the charity tournament, GGPoker will also hold a number of giveaways and awareness-raising activities across its social media platforms in the run up to International Women’s Day. Davina Byrne, GGPoker outreach and community advocate, said: “The GGPoker community has a history of donating funds to worthy charities, so it’s great that they’ll get the opportunity once more this International Women’s Day. “Charity tournaments are a wonderful way of raising money; we get the opportunity to play the game we love while supporting something worthwhile,” she added. The launch of the tournament follows GGPoker’s link-up with Fantastic Ladies in Poker last month, a partnership which aims to promote women’s poker across the world. Despite this, GGPoker attracted criticism for hiring controversial social media star Dan Bilzerian as a brand ambassador considering his posts include photos of women in demeaning situations.
