Ladbrokes launches political betting market on Donald Trump tweets
GVC-owned operator invites punters to predict which of US president’s favourite phrases will appear in first tweet of the day
Ladbrokes has invited punters to predict specific words written by US President Donald Trump in his first tweet of each day in a newly developed betting market.
The market – which went live for the first time on 1 June – allows Ladbrokes customers to bet on Trump’s preferred phrases appearing in the first tweet posted after he wakes up.
‘Terrorists’ is the favourite in today’s betting at evens, while ‘ANTIFA’ (3/2), ‘violence’ (3/2), ‘Fake News’ (2/1) and ‘Sleepy Joe’ (3/1) round off the top five.

Coverage has now moved on to riots across the US following the death of George Floyd in police custody.
Trump has since threatened to send in the army should countrywide protests continue.
‘Bible’ at odds of 10/1 has proven the most popular bet with punters today after protesters outside the White House were dispersed with tear gas so Trump could pose for a photo with the Bible.
Matthew Shaddick, head of politics betting at Ladbrokes, said: “There is obviously an appetite for people to speculate about when and what Trump will tweet about so we thought we’d give it a try.”
The markets will go live at 8am UK time until midday, or 7am in Washington.
