Spin3, the mobile gaming solutions provider, has launched a new interactive lottery system for mobile and online called LottoSpin.
The lottery system is powered by software provider Microgaming and will be available worldwide, including the US on a state-by-state basis through a partnership with Pulse Interactive.
Although not the first interactive lottery system for mobile, previous versions have used SMS. Matti Zinder, head of Spin3, told eGaming Review texting technology is “more primitive” than Spin3’s “graphic based system”.
LottoSpin enables traditional lotteries to enter the online and mobile space. As well as providing a gaming platform, it also offers a range of games to accompany an operators’ offering.
The lottery solution can be used for either regional or state lottery draws and bettors can collect their winnings on more than 2,000 mobile devices including the iPhone and the BlackBerry.
Zinder said Spin3 has two large deals in the pipeline in the US and global markets but refused to go into further detail. He added that the company had received “very specific input” from these clients as to how they’d “like to see the product” and that “the games were developed on this input.”
Spin3 uses location-based transaction approval technology to ensure no tickets are purchased in non-regulated jurisdictions. Personal player information is kept secure with Spin3’s SpinLoc system which means that no sensitive information is stored on any handset.
The US is one of the main markets targeted by LottoSpin, Zinder said: “We think one of the first areas where egaming will be regulated in the US will be the state lotteries. The ability to provide this on a mobile phone is very exciting for us and exciting for the people in the state government we are talking to as well.”
The move into online by land-based state lotteries is a recent one, with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) launching the first government-run online casino in North America earlier this month. However, the BCLC’s PlayNow.com site was taken down soon after it went live due to a security breach which left players’ personal data available to other users. BCLC are postponing the re-launch of the site until the technical fault has been rectified.
Commenting about the PlayNow.com site, Zinder said: “You have to do things on a secure and very robust platform or you’re going to run into problems like that. This should serve as a lesson not to jump into these half-baked solutions before testing them and making sure the system itself is able to stand it.”
