William Hill commits to carbon neutrality by 2050
FTSE 250 operator reveals pledge after year-long procurement process
William Hill is aiming to achieve net zero carbon emissions within its business model by 2050.
The operator made the pledge following a year-long procurement process by switching power to international energy conglomerate Total.
In December 2019, William Hill issued a request to tender for a new energy supplier to its UK and international real estate, with Total later being shortlisted and winning the contract in March 2020.
It is understood the contract is on Total’s ‘pure green product’, which comes from 100% renewable sources such as solar, wind and hydro, but does not include biomass.

More than 75% of the energy will be generated by wind power, with the rest a mix of solar and hydroelectric power. A provider with a long history of supplying fossil fuels, Total pledged to become a net zero carbon emissions firm by 2050 in May 2020.
Hills operates more than 2,000 betting shops across the UK, as well as a number of regional offices, combined with operational sites in Gibraltar.
The pledge feeds into Hills’ wider corporate social responsibility aims.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged the UK will bring greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
