Michigan regulator issues five cease-and-desist orders in latest illegal gambling crackdown
Michigan Gaming Control Board sanctions BoVegas Casino, BUSR, Cherry Gold Casino, Lucky Legends, and Wager Attack Casino for targeting players in the Great Lakes State without the correct licenses
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has sent cease-and-desist orders to five more operators that were found to be targeting players in the state without the proper license.
BoVegas Casino, BUSR, Cherry Gold Casino, Lucky Legends, and Wager Attack Casino all received the order to shutter services in the state.
Each platform was found to be in violation of Michigan’s Lawful Internet Gaming Act and the Michigan Penal Code.
The operators were also in breach of the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, contravention of which carries a punishment of a $100,000 fine, up to 10 years’ imprisonment, or both.
The MGCB’s investigation discovered that both BoVegas Casino and Cherry Gold Casino were offering slots and table games while ignoring the state’s licensing requirements.
BUSR was found to be marketing itself as a sportsbook and casino despite operating without the consumer protections mandated by Michigan state law.
Lucky Legends promoted a VIP experience to customers along with bonuses, although it “bypasses state regulations designed to ensure fairness.”
Wager Attack Casino offered players both sports betting and casino gaming without a Michigan license.
An MGCB statement read: “The MGCB’s investigations found that these sites have been accepting wagers and deposits from Michigan residents on sports events, slots, blackjack, and other casino games – all without the oversight and safeguards required by law.
“Players using these platforms face unreliable payouts, unfair gaming practices, and have no legal recourse in case of disputes.”
Each operator has been given 14 days to halt all gaming activities in the Great Lakes State, or risk further legal action from the MGCB.
MGCB executive director Henry Williams noted: “These illegal operations, whether offshore or operating without a Michigan license, exploit players and put them at risk.
“We will continue to take strong action to protect the integrity of Michigan’s gaming industry and to ensure that residents have access to safe, legal, and regulated gambling options.”
The cease-and-desist orders are part of the MGCB’s latest crackdown on unlicensed operators in the state.
Earlier this month, the regulator sent six cease-and-desists to Bonus Blitz Casino, DomGame, Royal Ace Casino, Slots Capital, Supernova Casino, and Wins Mania for illegally operating in the state.
