Now in its 22nd year, the EGR Power 50 remains the only definitive rundown of the online gambling industry’s most powerful and influential operators. Simply put, the ranking comprehensively assesses how the B2C heavyweights shape up against one another in this fast-paced and ever-evolving environment. Indeed, the online gambling sector could never be accused of being dull – and the last 12 months has underlined that point with no shortage of developments impacting the ranking, including our old friend M&A.

Since last year’s edition, Kindred Group has been absorbed by FDJ United (previously Las Française des Jeux), while Flutter has completed its €2.3bn purchase of Playtech’s Italian business, Snaitech, and now also holds a majority stake in Brazilian operator Betnacional’s parent NSX Group. Meanwhile, Intralot has shelled out €2.7bn for Bally’s International Interactive and, shortly before this issue went to press, France’s Banijay Group announced plans to gobble up German giant Tipico to create what was hailed by management as a “European champion in sports betting and online gaming”.
Consolidation has naturally impacted the EGR Power 50 (eg Playtech has exited the list due to its Snaitech sale and pivot to a pure B2B outfit), while there are four new entrants this year and six companies qualified for our ‘Ones to watch’ section. These are operators that didn’t quite make the cut this time around but certainly have the potential to be included in the 2026 edition.
Since last year’s EGR Power 50, regulation has become both tougher and costlier for licensees. In the Netherlands, for example, tax on GGR increased to 34.2% from January (and is set to rise to 37.8% in the new year), France pushed up online sports betting to 59.3% in July, and a number of US states have pulled similar levers to raise funds and plug budget deficits. Earlier this year, New Jersey increased online sports betting and igaming tax to 19.75%, Maryland went from 15% to 20% and Louisiana jumped from 15% to 21.5%. Meanwhile, Illinois lawmakers imposed a $0.25 charge per bet on an operator’s first 20 million wagers, followed by $0.50 per bet above that, from 1 July.

Regulated US sportsbooks are not only feeling the pinch from a tax perspective, they’re facing yet another new threat. First it was DFS+, then it was sweepstakes, and now it’s prediction markets. This booming sector is attracting colossal investment and could upend state-regulated sports betting – hence why market leaders FanDuel and DraftKings are set to launch sports event contracts. Like we said, this industry is never dull. EGR called upon the expertise of accountancy giant BDO to run the numbers (operators’ financials cover the trailing 12 months to 30 June 2025) and assist with growth scores. So put your curiosity at ease and read on to find out more…
This year, we have published the rankings earlier than usual to ensure operators have more time to celebrate their achievements before the holidays and make plans to attend the EGR Power 50 Summit in April 2026. This means the reporting period to be considered for the rankings, including financials and the completion of any M&A, was capped at the end of H1 2025.
EGR has retained its established formula of judging each company by its global reach (regulated markets are given a higher weight), strategy and impact, market influence and leadership, and financial performance. For the latter criteria, we rely on the expertise of BDO to assist EGR with calculating the growth scores.
EGR would like to thank EveryMatrix for sponsoring this year’s Power 50, and BDO for helping us compile the rankings by crunching the most crucial numbers. BDO is one of the world’s largest accountancy and business advisory firms and is a leading service provider to the online gaming sector.
