North Carolina operators post November revenue of $78m alongside significant handle rise
Tar Heel State firms generate second-highest amount of revenue in the nine months since its regulated market went live following packed sporting calendar
North Carolina’s eight licensed operators reported their highest monthly revenue since the return of the NFL, with a combined $78.1m confirmed in November.
The figure was a steep increase on October’s $48.7m and September’s $70.1m when the 2024 football season kicked off.
November also classed as the second-highest month for revenue since the Tar Heel State’s regulated market launched in March, after April’s $105.3m.
Total handle of $657.7m was reported in November, again marking the second-highest amount of money wagered since the market went live.
Over the course of the month, customers in North Carolina wagered $638.7m, while the remaining $19m was made up of promotional spend.
November’s handle total fell $35.6m short of March’s record sum, the market’s first month of wagering, which amounted to $659.3m.
The sporting calendar for last month will have played a contributing factor to the revenue return and steep rise in handle.
It was a successful month from a player perspective, with the $576.8m paid out in winnings the second-highest amount recorded since the market went live after $590.8m was paid out in March.
In turn, operators returned estimated tax proceeds of $14.1m to the state, with firms subject to an 18% tax rate on gross gaming revenue.
At the time of writing, the licensed operators in the state include Fanatics, FanDuel, bet365, Caesars Entertainment, DraftKings, BetMGM, ESPN Bet, and Underdog.
