Wynn withdraws online license application in New Jersey
Operator writes to stateâs Division of Gaming Enforcement to say it does ânot wish to proceedâ with its application for an online wagering permit
Wynn Resorts has withdrawn its application for an online gaming license application in New Jersey, in what appears to be a clear statement from casino mogul Steve Wynn on his view on online gaming in the US. [private]
In a letter to the stateâs Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), Wynn Interactive said it did ânot wish to proceedâ with its application for a Casino Service Industry Enterprise License.
Wynn does not have a bricks-and-mortar casino in New Jersey, which meant under state gaming law it would have to partner with a land-based operator in Atlantic City.
Back in September 2013 Wynn Interactive announced it had struck a deal with 888 to launch a Wynn-branded site via its All American Poker Network offering.
And Wynn Interactive received a transactional waiver from the DGE in February last year but then Steve Wynn performed a surprise U-turn and said egaming was not a âgood entrepreneurial opportunityâ.
Wynn Interactive first submitted its license application back in August 2013, having also applied to become an online poker operator in Nevada.
Back in 2011 Wynn entered into a non-binding agreement with PokerStars with a view to entering the US egaming market, but that arrangement collapsed following Black Friday.
