Female-focused startup Betty adds ex-WeWork COO as a strategic advisor
Jen Berrent to lend experience and expertise to Justin Park-led business following three funding raises in past 13 months.
Female-focused online casino Betty has added former WeWork chief operating officer Jen Berrent as a strategic advisor.
Berrent is set to lend her corporate expertise to the startup as its looks to continue to make inroads following three funding raises in the past 13 months.
Berrent spent more than six years at WeWork, originally joining the company as chief culture and chief legal officer in October 2014.
She then dropped her culture remit and became chief operating officer alongside her legal remit in July 2017.
Then, in April 2019, Berrent moved into a sole position as chief legal officer.
Since June 2021, she has served as CEO of New York-based legal firm Covenant, while also serving as a director for education program HYPOTHEkids.
Berrent’s addition as a strategic advisor comes weeks after Betty secured $5m in a pre-Series A funding round led by CEAS Investments in January.
Powerhouse Capital, Courtside Ventures, and igaming VC HappyHour also took part in the round.
In May 2023, HappyHour led a seed extension to support Betty and was joined by the likes of Endzone Media, Milwaukee Venture Partners, and industry veteran Seth Young.
The operator also netted $5m in a round led by Karlani Capital in February 2023.
Justin Park, Betty co-founder and CEO, said: “I’ve discovered that strategic corporate structuring can be a competitive edge in real-money gaming, and Jen is a true master in this domain, evidenced by her crucial role in WeWork’s rapid global expansion.
“In addition to challenging us to think bigger and bolder, we’re thrilled to add an important female voice on our team as we build our female-focused brand.
“We’re extremely proud to have Jen on board and can’t wait to see the amazing things we’ll achieve together,” he added.
