PointsBet Canada CCO steps down to launch The Curling Group
Nic Sulsky leaves the operator after nearly three years after co-founding new winter sport promotion alongside two-time Olympic gold medallist John Morris
PointsBet Canada chief commercial officer (CCO) Nic Sulsky will step down from his role on June 30, ending his three-year stint at the operator.
Sulsky joined the ASX-listed operator in June 2021 as CCO following four years as president of the daily fantasy sports operator, Monkey Knife Fight.
He was at the now-defunct firm when it was acquired by Bally’s in January 2021 for $90m. Bally’s shuttered the brand in March 2023 as part of a group restructuring.
Before his time at Monkey Knife Fight, Sulsky was president at DraftDay Gaming Group between September 2015 and June 2017. He counts a stint as VP of digital fantasy sports at Sportech on his CV.
The outgoing CCO is leaving PointsBet and the igaming industry after establishing The Curling Group alongside two-time curling Olympic gold medallist John Morris and sports industry veteran Mile Cotton.
The Curling Group has acquired the Grand Slam of Curling and is planning on “revolutionizing the sport of curling through strategic investments and a commitment to innovation and content production.”
On his departure from PointsBet, Sulsky said: “I am incredibly grateful for my time at PointsBet and proud of the accomplishments we’ve achieved together. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a talented team and to contribute to the company’s growth and success.
“As I embark on this new journey with the Grand Slam of Curling, I am excited about the opportunities ahead and thankful for the support of my colleagues at PointsBet.
“I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the sports industry and am eager to see what the future holds for the sport of curling and PointsBet alike,” he added.
Scott Vanderwel, PointsBet Canada CEO, commented: “Nic has been an invaluable leader and partner at PointsBet, driving our commercial success and helping us realize our vision of delivering a world-class igaming experience deeply rooted in Canadian sport.
“His contributions have been instrumental in shaping PointsBet into the innovative and customer-centric company it is today. While we will miss Nic’s expertize and leadership, we are thrilled to support him as he pursues his passion for the great sport of curling in his next chapter.”
Vanderwel also reassured stakeholders that Sulsky’s departure will not not affect the company’s dedication to the Canadian market.
The CEO added: “We remain steadfast in our commitment and growth plans for Canada, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead.”
